The Camera Trick by Matthew Wright combines card magic with spectacular smartphone animations. A signed card changes exactly as it does on your screen! With a surprising glitch finale. Works with the CTRL'D app.
The Camera Trick by Matthew Wright is a spectacular modern magic trick in which classic card magic and digital technology come together.
With the help of your smartphone and special animations, your phone camera appears to be able to see right through playing cards. But that is just the beginning, because what happens on your screen turns out to have ultimately happened to the real playing cards as well!
Matthew Wright has worked for more than three years on this special routine, in which augmented reality and physical card magic are combined in a surprising way.
You can perform two separate effects or combine both into one extensive routine with multiple spectacular moments.
In the first effect, a spectator chooses a playing card and signs his or her name on the back.
Next, point your smartphone camera at the back of the signed card.
Something incredible is happening on the screen.
The camera seems to look right through the card and shows exactly which playing card the spectator has chosen!
But the magic doesn't stop there.
A second card is selected, and the image on your phone screen visibly changes to this new card.
You mention that not only the digital image has changed, but that the real, signed playing card has also been transformed.
Now you just need to change the card back to the original selection.
The animation starts again, but suddenly something goes wrong.
The screen starts to stutter and freezes. The image hangs between the two selected cards and turns into a strange, digital chaos.
You then turn over the real signed card.
To the great surprise of the audience, this card has also been transformed into a bizarre, incorrectly printed playing card!
The digital malfunction therefore appears to have actually affected the physical card.
In the second routine, you try again, but this time with a very different result.
A spectator chooses the King of Hearts, also known as the Suicide King because of the sword visible behind his head.
The map is signed on the back, and you point the smartphone camera at the map again.
The King of Hearts appears on the screen.
Next, a second card is chosen, for example the Four of Hearts.
A special animation is now beginning.
The King takes a blank card from his coat, takes his sword, and uses it to detach the four heart symbols from his own playing card.
Next, he places these symbols on the blank card, creating a Four of Hearts.
When the animation stops, you see the back of the signed card on the screen again.
You turn over the real playing card and show that the King of Hearts is now actually holding the Four of Hearts!
What makes The Camera Trick special is that the digital animations are not just a visual aid, but form an important part of the magical events.
What at first seems to be happening only on your phone screen eventually becomes reality.
Despite the elaborate and spectacular presentation, The Camera Trick is relatively easy to perform and suitable for magicians of various skill levels.
The effect uses Matthew Wright's CTRL'D app.
Important: Although both Android and iOS are mentioned in the original product information, the additional information states that the CTRL'D app is currently only available for iOS. An Android version has been announced, but its availability has not been confirmed. Therefore, please check in advance whether the app is compatible with your device.
Any presentation stand or easel for the cards used is not included.
The Camera Trick is a unique choice for magicians who want to surprise their audience with a combination of smartphone technology, visual animations, and tangible card magic.
A modern routine where the boundary between the digital screen and the real world seems to disappear completely!
