Chinese sticks

The magician shows two magic sticks. On one sits and long rope with a tassel on the other is a short string with a brush. If the magician pulls the plug on the short word for longer, while the long string is shorter.

Initially, the public thinks that the sticks are attached, but obviously this is not so and himself with the sticks in each other hand the magician still manages to do this comic act succeed.
