Meet Thijs – Owner of Magicshop

My name is Thijs, and magic has been a common thread throughout my life. From a young age, I became fascinated by the world of magic. The first spark was ignited when I “borrowed” tricks from my brother and from that moment on, I was hooked.

Although my career has taken me through various roles and professions, magic never disappeared. Alongside my work, I always remained active as a magician at parties and events, for both children and adults. From lively children’s shows to refined close-up table magic, amazing an audience has always been my greatest passion.

As a child, I bought my very first magic tricks at Jan Monnikendam’s Magic World in Haarlem, the most famous magic shop of its time, founded in 1982. In 2012, this familiar place changed course: Jan Monnikendam continued solely as a party store, while Ron Timmer, together with Gert Piet, took over the magic department. Magic World was reborn as Magicshop.
Initially located in the Waardepolder area of Haarlem, the shop soon moved to Heemskerk.

In 2019, Magicshop was hit hard by a devastating fire that destroyed everything. A huge setback, but also a moment of resilience. The shop was rebuilt from the ground up and given the look and feel that defines Magicshop today: warm, inspiring, and full of magic.

Since September 1st, 2025, I have had the honor of leading Magicshop together with my wife, Maaike, a dream come true. At the back of the warehouse, we have also created a very special place: the Magical Warehouse. An intimate theater where I personally present shows and workshops for young and old.

And this is only the beginning. The plans are bursting with ideas: lectures, magic rallies, and many more magical activities are on the horizon. Magicshop is not just a store — it is a place where magic lives, grows, and is shared.
