Sticking a pencil straight through a playing card and then returning the card completely undamaged? With this particularly visual card trick, that seems to be exactly what happens.

You show a deck of Bicycle cards and demonstrate that the cards are all different. A spectator then chooses a random card. You may simply look at the chosen card, after which you take a pencil and visibly stick it straight through the playing card.

The audience clearly sees that the pencil actually appears to be stuck through the card. Next, you pull the pencil out again. Where everyone expects a large hole, the playing card turns out to be completely intact.

After the trick, you can give both the card and the pencil to the spectator to examine. There seems to be nothing special to discover. If desired, you can even repeat the effect with another playing card.

Besides a pencil, you can also use a rolled-up banknote and seemingly push it straight through the card. This allows you to perform various presentations using the same principle.
