You borrow an American quarter from a spectator and hold the coin visibly at your fingertips. Next, you push a pen straight through the metal. The pen appears to actually go through the borrowed coin, after which the quarter hangs visibly from the pen.

The strength of PUNCTURE is that the pen and coin can be given to the spectator immediately after the effect to examine. They can therefore view the result up close for themselves.

Then you remove the coin from the pen, and another surprise follows. The quarter turns out to have recovered almost completely.
