Expansion by Dave Loosley is a unique visual effect in which a small hole in a playing card becomes larger in an impossible way and then smaller again. An original combination of card magic, coin magic, and a seemingly unsolvable puzzle.

A spectator chooses a playing card completely freely and signs it. No force is required. Next, make a hole in the card with a regular hole punch.

You give the signed card along with a borrowed coin to the spectator and pose a simple challenge: can the coin be passed through the hole without damaging the card?

The participant may try as often as desired, but it soon becomes clear that the coin is simply too big to fit through the opening.

Then you show how a magician solves this problem.

Right before the eyes of the audience, you visibly stretch the hole in the playing card. The opening gets bigger and bigger, until the coin can pass through effortlessly.

With a simple movement, the hole then shrinks back to its original size. The card and the coin are then returned to the spectator.

Expansion is designed to be easy to perform. The specially developed gimmick enables the visual transformation, while the routine provides a natural prompt to actively involve the viewer in the effect.
